Highlights

Christine F. Li was named chair of the firm’s Planned Real Estate Practice Group. Ms. Li was also named a member of the American College of Real Estate Lawyers. Ms. Li was selected for inclusion in Super Lawyers –New Jersey edition in the Real Estate category and was recognized as a one of New Jersey’s Top 50 Women Lawyers.

 

J. David Ramsey was named chair of the firm’s Community Association Practice Group.

 

Paul A. Rowe served as a moderator at the seminar, “Hot Topics in Chancery Trial Practice: 2008,” hosted by the New Jersey Institute for Continuing Legal Education on May 5. Mr. Rowe was selected for inclusion in Super Lawyers – New Jersey edition in the Business Litigation category and was recognized as one of New Jersey’s top 10 lawyers.

 

Robert C. Schachter was a speaker at the seminar, “Commercial Real Estate for Dummies” held by the Monmouth County Association of REALTORS® on April 18.

 

Dennis A. Estis was reappointed as Chair of the Middlesex County Judicial and Prosecutorial Appointments Committee of the Middlesex County Bar Association. Mr. Estis was honored at a reception on June 22 for his two year of service as President of The Discovery Orchestra and his eight years of service on the Board of Trustees of the Orchestra. Mr. Estis received a Notice of Award for legal services from the New Jersey School Development Authority regarding three areas: insurance coverage, environmental law and errors and omissions.

 

Robert S. Goldsmith presented at the New Jersey Institute of Technology on “The Science of Brownfield Implementation” on April 2. Mr. Goldsmith was a speaker at the Land Use Institute hosted by the New Jersey Institute for Continuing Legal Education on May 12 and was a panel member on the topic “Redevelopment – What Does it Really Take to Redevelop in New Jersey? How to Get on The Redevelopment Bandwagon” at a seminar hosted by the New Jersey State Bar Association on May 22. Mr. Goldsmith spoke at the conference, Land Use in New Jersey, and spoke on the topic of “Public/Private Partnerships: What’s Working and What is Not” on June 26. Mr. Goldsmith was part of the development/redevelopment panel on “Challenges & Remedies” at this year’s New Jersey Urban Real Estate Conference hosted by New Jersey & Company on September 10 at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center in Newark.

 

Meryl A.G. Gonchar was a speaker at the Land Use Institute in May and the Land Use Update in March both hosted by the New Jersey Institute for Continuing Legal Education.

 

Joseph M. Oriolo was elected as a Director of the Community YMCA in Middletown, New Jersey.

 

Aron M. Schwartz spoke at the Annual Conference of the National Association of College and University Attorneys in New York City on the topic “Lawyering After Ledbetter: Pay Equity Claims in Academe” on June 22. Ledbetter is a recent U.S. Supreme Court case holding that the statute of limitations for claims of discrimination in compensation brought under Title VII begins to run from the date of the decision fixing the salary and rejecting the argument that each paycheck constitutes a new discriminatory act that starts the statute anew.

 

David A. Roth was named to a working committee of the Environmental Business Council of the Commerce & Industry Association of New Jersey that will review Bill S1897, a bill that would establish a licensed site professional program for site remediation and make various changes to site remediation laws.

 

Steven Nudelman authors a regular column, Legal Pipeline, in Plumbing Systems and Design magazine.

 

Hany A. Mawla presented on the topic of “Nuances of the Matrimonial Case Information Statement” at the Association of Trial Lawyers of America – New Jersey Boardwalk Seminar in Atlantic City on May 2. Mr. Mawla was appointed by the Board of Directors of W.A.F.A. House in Paterson, a service organization and shelter for victims of domestic violence, to provide family law services on a pro bono basis.

 

Joanne Vos was installed as President-Elect of the New Jersey Defense Association at its 42nd Annual Convention in June.

 

Jeffrey A. Sirot was awarded the Young Lawyer Section (YLS) Achievement Award by the Essex County Bar Association at its annual dinner on April 28 and was also installed as a YLS trustee.

 

On May 20 the firm hosted the “First Annual Symposium on Cutting Edge Legal Issues For Community Associations,” moderated by J. Attorneys from the firm participated at the Atlantic Builders Convention that was held April 16-18 in Atlantic City. The three-day event is the largest building industry trade how in the Northeast and draws participants from a six-state region, including residential and commercial builders, developers, remodelers, subcontractors and consulting professionals. Hundreds of exhibits showcase their latest products and services.
