Practice Group: Family Law

Members of the Family Law Practice Group know that every family law issue, large or small, is significant to a client. Lawyers in this practice group proceed in a straightforward, thoughtful and efficient manner towards a resolution, whether through negotiation, mediation, litigation or through the appellate process.

Clients often come to us with complex situations to be resolved, such as family business ownership, multiple real estate interests, or child custody problems that span state or international borders. In such instances, the size and strength of GRS&D's other practice areas are available to clients who need them. For example, our Real Estate, Tax, Trust & Estates, and Corporate Departments are available to assist in family law cases when appropriate. The Family Law Practice Group is skilled in a variety of matters:

  • Marital dissolution;
  • Sophisticated divorces requiring business valuations and/or litigation;
  • Divorce mediations, arbitrations and collaborative divorce practice;
  • Child custody proceedings;
  • Guardian ad litem appointments;
  • Palimony;
  • Negotiation of prenuptial agreements;
  • Post judgment matters including appeals, enforcement of orders and judgments, and changes to orders or agreements regarding custody and time sharing of children.

Many of the lawyers of the Family Law Practice Group are well known in their field and serve in positions of leadership in the family law and the litigation sections of county, state, national and international bar associations. Group members are influential in the profession as speakers, authors and editors of leading treatises, journals and articles. A number are certified as mediators, and many are members of the Early Settlement Panels in Family Courts in various counties, and Certified by the Supreme Court of New Jersey as a Matrimonial Attorney. When the negotiation or mediation of a family law matter does not reach a suitable conclusion members of the group are well prepared to carry out the litigation through trial and to pursue decisions through the appellate process if necessary. In one case of particular note, partners Paul A. Rowe, Mark H. Sobel, and Jacqueline M. Printz won the largest divorce award ($38.9 million) in New Jersey history in 2004, a decision that was featured in the August 16, 2004, issue of New Jersey Law Journal.

Four of the Group’s partners have been honored through their selection by their peers to prominent legal directories. Dina M. Vanides by Super Lawyers - Rising Stars Edition; Mark H. Sobel was chosen by The Best Lawyers in America and Super Lawyers - New Jersey Edition; Jacqueline M. Printz by Super Lawyers - New Jersey Edition; Paul A. Rowe by Chambers USA Directory of Leading Lawyers for Business, The Best Lawyers in America and Super Lawyers - New Jersey Edition.
