Practice Group: Alternative Dispute Resolution

Every conflict has a beginning, usually in an innocent appearing blind spot.  The job of the Alternative Dispute Resolution Group is to foresee the potential of a dispute from the very start of a transaction or relationship, and put in place effective dispute resolution mechanisms that will solve conflicts and avoid litigation.  For nearly 100 years, our lawyers have helped clients see around the corners of conflict by focusing early and comprehensively on business and personal relationships and transactions.

Our Alternative Dispute Resolution lawyers practice in all departments and specialties of the firm and serve as advocates or neutrals. Members include trial and transactional lawyers, a former Judge of the Superior Court of New Jersey, members of the rosters of both state and federal court systems who serve as court appointed mediators and arbitrators, and members of the rosters of neutrals for the American Arbitration Association.

The Alternative Dispute Resolution attorneys have acted as advocates and neutrals in a wide array of situations including multi-party construction and real estate conflicts, complex domestic and international commercial disputes, employment disputes, including anti-discrimination and sexual harassment claims, intellectual property disputes, estate claims, and disputes among business owners, including post-acquisition disputes.  In addition, our Group offers audits to ensure that all of a client's contracts include appropriate dispute resolution mechanics.

Business Divorce and Post Acquisition Dispute Resolution Practice Group

This Business Divorce and Post Acquisition Dispute Resolution Group is a subpractice of the Alternative Dispute Resolution Group and its work is limited to the mediation and arbitration of:

  • Business Divorces
  • Post Acquisition Disputes
  • Corporate Governance Conflicts

Two of our most experienced business lawyers, Alan Davis and Steve Knee chair the group.  Both Steve and Alan have more than 40 years of experience practicing business law, have been continually rated AV in Martindale Hubble and listed in The Best Lawyers in America and Chambers USA - America’s Leading Lawyers for Business.

Being lawyers who have long served business clients is a distinct advantage to dispute resolution clients. Steve Knee and Alan Davis bring an informed and practical approach to the process of solving disputes versus other dispute resolution experts who may have never counseled a business client nor helped them weather the economic and financial realities of commerce day by day. While both Steve and Alan have worked with very large corporate clients, they have focused on serving mid market companies.
