New Jersey Law Center, New Brunswick, NJ
9:00am - 12:00pm

Raymond M. Brown, a partner in the firm’s Litigation Department, will moderate and lecture at a presentation on “Violence Against Women on College Campuses” on Tuesday, March 7, 2017 from 9:00am – 12:00pm at the New Jersey Law Center in New Brunswick. The seminar will be presented by the New Jersey Institute for Continuing Legal Education in cooperation with the New Jersey State Bar Foundation and the New Jersey State Bar Association Senior Lawyers Special Committee.

Between 20 to 25% of all women will experience a completed and/or attempted rape during their college career.  More than half of them will tell no one.  44% of the victims are under the age of 18.  In 1-in-3 sexual assaults, the perpetrator was intoxicated.  Freshman and sophomores are at greater risk then upper-class students, and 84% of the women who reported sexual coercion experienced the incident during their first 4 semesters on campus. Only 2% of sexual assault allegations are false.

The statistics are shocking.  The impact of sexual assaults on college campuses affects our entire society – students, parents, college faculty and administration, college towns, law enforcement, defense attorneys, social works, hospitals and the court system.

This important program will bring awareness to this insidious problem and work to find solutions for both the legal community and the public. Mr. Brown and his fellow panelists will examine the problem from a legal, social and societal framework, and work to answer some important legal and social questions.

Mr. Brown concentrates his practice in white collar criminal defense, international human rights issues, internal investigations and complex commercial litigation.  He has defended clients in state and federal courts and before administrative tribunals. He is a leading figure in the developing area of law related to the regulation and enforcement of business requirements for human rights compliance. He serves as the chair of the firm’s Corporate & International Human Rights Compliance and White Collar Defense Practice Groups.
