John D. North, Co-Chair of the firm’s Litigation practice, will be a panelist for a seminar on “Expert Discovery and Trial Testimony in New Jersey Civil Litigation” on Tuesday, September 9, 2025 from 9:00am – 12:35pm. The program, presented by the New Jersey Institute for Continuing Legal Education, will be held at the New Jersey Law Center and will also be available for online viewing.
A critical element of civil litigation is expert testimony. This program will address the scope of expert discovery, including the governing court rules, time requirements, case management, and the components of expert reports. Panelists will offer insights into best practices and pitfalls of deposing experts, including how to recognize when expert testimony is objectionable, admissibility and expert challenges, such as the net opinion doctrine, reliability standard, and motion practice.
John focuses his practice in litigation, with an emphasis on trial practice. He has tried jury and non-jury cases in state and federal courts, including over 75 jury cases to verdict. He is certified by the Supreme Court of New Jersey as a Civil Trial Attorney. He is the author of the evidence treatise A Trial Lawyer’s Strategic Guide to the New Jersey Rules of Evidence and is a principal author of Business and Commercial Litigation in Federal Courts, contributing the chapter in the treatise devoted to Medical Malpractice. He also contributed the chapter on statutory disclosure requirements in Winning Legal Strategies for Construction Law.
