Greenbaum partners Christopher D. Adams and Robert B. Hille will present the program “Risks from Serving More than One Master – Practicing Law Without a License, Outside Civil Exposure and Other Pitfalls for In-House Counsel” at the Association of Corporate Counsel New Jersey chapter’s 20th Annual All-Day CLE Conference, which will be conducted this year as a virtual event throughout the months of September and October 2022. The firm’s presentation is scheduled for Tuesday, September 13 from 9:00am – 10:15am, and will be delivered as a live webinar on the ACCNJ’s Zoom platform.

Our panelists will address inherent conflicts of interest for corporate counsel focusing on RPC 1.7 (conflict of interest general rule) and RPC 1.13 (organization as the client). Also discussed will be the exposure of corporate counsel to claims of unauthorized practice of law where they are not licensed in the jurisdiction where they are performing a “legal service” as well as how that could translate to a civil suit (e.g. third party liability in New Jersey) by someone claiming they relied on corporate counsel.

The presentation will feature a special guest panelist, Sharon A. Balsamo, Assistant Executive Director and General Counsel of the New Jersey State Bar Association (NJSBA). Ms. Balsamo provides legal and policy advice in connection with all aspects of the Bar’s operations, including legal representation, legislative and appellate advocacy, judicial administration, policy and corporate governance guidance, strategic planning, and more. She will bring her unique perspective and key insights to the discussion of key ethical issues.
