Paul A. Rowe, managing partner of the law firm Greenbaum, Rowe, Smith & Davis LLP, recently authored the second edition of his book, New Jersey Business Litigation, published by American Lawyer Media. This edition has been revised and updated with all changes in the law since its original 2000 publication date. The book has become the standard for commercial litigators, in-house counsel, general practitioners and transactional attorneys representing business clients in the state of New Jersey.
Rowe has recently been selected as one of the top ten lawyers in the state by Super Lawyers. He is also named a New Jersey Super Lawyer in the Business Litigation category. Both listings are featured in the April 2007 issue of New Jersey Monthly. Selections for Super Lawyers are done by other lawyers who have observed the lawyer in action and the final selection represents the top 5% of attorneys in New Jersey. Each lawyer is given a score based on the total number of votes he or she receives, putting Rowe in the elite top ten designation overall.
Chair of the Litigation Department, he has served a broad range of individual and institutional clients in state and federal courts throughout the country for 40 years. He has been lead counsel in a myriad of diverse and prominent matters including the trial of one of the largest antitrust cases in New Jersey and the rehabilitation of Mutual Benefit Life Insurance Company, where he was lead trial counsel for the general creditors. Rowe has tried numerous commercial cases of all sorts, including brokerage commission cases, construction cases, partnership and corporate dissolution, stock fraud cases, complex matrimonial cases and chancery litigation of all types. In one matrimonial litigation case of particular note, Rowe won the largest divorce award ($37.8 million) in New Jersey history in 2004, a decision that was featured in the New Jersey Law Journal.
Rowe is also co-author of the standard textbook for chancery litigation in New Jersey entitled Guidebook to Chancery Practice in New Jersey. He is a past president of the Essex County Bar Association and a member of the New Jersey State and American Bar Associations. He has also served as president of the Legal Services Foundation of Essex County (1997-1999) and is a trustee of the New Jersey Institute for Continuing Legal Education. Rowe is a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers, a Fellow of the American Bar Foundation and a Fellow of the International Academy of Trial Lawyers. Rowe was the 1993 recipient of the Trial Bar Award of the Trial Attorneys of New Jersey.
In peer-reviewed legal directories, he has been listed in Chambers USA - America’s Leading Business Lawyers 2007 guide as a leading individual in the Litigation practice area since the initial publication in 2003, as well as in The Best Lawyers in America in the Bet-the-Company Litigation, Business Litigation and Family Law categories. Significantly, Rowe was among the original 146 lawyers selected for the Bet-the-Company category listed in 2006, a category that today includes only 368 lawyers in the U.S. The Bet-the-Company category represents those litigators a company would choose for its defense if the entire value of the business were at risk in a lawsuit. He is also listed in the Law Dragon 3000 Directory of Leading Lawyers in the category of commercial litigation, a category that represents 1% of all litigators in the U.S.
Rowe is a graduate of Tufts College and Columbia Law School. He was admitted to the New York State Bar in 1961 and the New Jersey Bar in 1962. He is admitted in the U.S. District Court of New Jersey, the U.S. District Court, Southern and Eastern Districts of New York. He is also admitted to the U.S. Court of Appeals, Third and Sixth Circuits and the U.S. Tax Court.
