Thomas J. Denitzio, Jr. and Meryl A. G. Gonchar, partners at the law firm of Greenbaum, Rowe, Smith & Davis LLP, were recently named co-chairs of the firm’s Real Estate Department, one of the largest and most prominent real estate departments in the state.

Mr. Denitzio also chairs the Banking, Business Financing and Creditors’ Rights Practice Group at the firm and is a member of the Green Building Practice Group. This year he chairs the Third Annual Greenbaum Real Estate Conference, which will be held on May 7th at the Woodbridge Hilton and will include experts from the fields of public and private real estate financing, commercial development, and a panel of mayors.

Mr. Denitzio's practice focuses on the sale, acquisition, leasing  and mortgage financing of commercial and industrial real estate; and real estate-related litigation, such as real estate tax appeals, mortgage foreclosures and workouts, tax sale certificate foreclosures, quiet title actions and condemnation valuation hearings. He is the First Vice President of the Middlesex County Bar Association and Current Co-Chair of the Real Estate Committee and a member of the Income Property Committee of the Mortgage Bankers Association of New Jersey. Mr. Denitzio was selected for inclusion by Chambers USA - America's Leading Business Lawyers in the Real Estate practice area and The Best Lawyers in America in the Real Estate category.

Mr. Denitzio is the author of numerous articles in his field and is a frequent lecturer in his area of expertise. He graduated from Lafayette College, cum laude, and received his Juris Doctor from Cornell University School of Law. He lives with his family in Bridgewater, NJ.

Ms. Gonchar is also currently the chair of the firm’s Land Use Practice Group, is a member of the firm’s management and marketing committees, and a member of the GRSD Women’s Leadership Forum, a group that presents and sponsors a variety of educational, networking and mentoring opportunities consistent with its mission of advancing and sustaining the leadership roles of women in business and the professions. She also serves on the Green Building and Redevelopment Practice Groups at the firm.

Also in the past month, Ms. Gonchar was named to the Top 50 Women Lawyers in New Jersey by New Jersey Super Lawyers, as well as being selected in the real estate category by Super Lawyers.

In her legal practice, Ms. Gonchar's work encompasses all aspects of land use and zoning and land use litigation.  She has appeared before planning and zoning boards throughout the state on behalf of property owners and developer clients in connection with all types of residential, commercial, industrial and mixed use projects. She also represents clients in land use, condemnation and related litigation before the Superior Court of New Jersey. Her diversified experience enables her to assist clients throughout the various stages of a project’s development, from acquisition through approvals and permitting, financing, leasing or sales, providing extensive knowledge and continuity throughout the often long and complicated process of land development.

Ms. Gonchar is an elected member of the prestigious American College of Real Estate Lawyers, a selection bestowed by the evaluation of the College’s attorney members. As an authority on land use law and litigation, Ms. Gonchar frequently speaks at industry conferences, such as the Atlantic Builders Convention, and to the profession, through the New Jersey Institute of Continuing Legal Education. She is a co-author of “Highlands Law Impacts Development,” New Jersey REALTOR® and “Zoning and Land Use Litigation,” New Jersey Land Use and Environmental Law.

Ms. Gonchar was selected for NJBIZ magazine’s Top 50 Women in Business in 2008, is listed in The Best Lawyers in America in the Real Estate category, and listed in Chambers USA: America’s Leading Business Lawyers in the Real Estate: Zoning/Land Use practice area.

She is the past chair and member of the Board of Directors of the Land Use Law Section of the New Jersey Bar Association (NJSBA) and member of NJSBA’s Long Term Planning Committee; she is a past president and former director of programming of Industrial Commercial Real Estate Women - New Jersey (ICREW-NJ), and former delegate to CREW Network (the national arm of ICREW); she is a member of the National Association of Industrial and Office Properties New Jersey. In other professional activities, Ms. Gonchar is a member of the Executive Board of the Jewish Federation of Greater Middlesex County.

Ms. Gonchar graduated with a B.A. cum laude from Rutgers College and received her Juris Doctor from Rutgers School of Law in Newark. She lives with her family in East Brunswick, New Jersey.
