Greenbaum, Rowe, Smith & Davis LLP Client Alert
3.23.20

On March 20, 2020, the Attorney General of the State of New Jersey and the Director of the New Jersey Division of Consumer Affairs announced that the requirements for healthcare professionals, including physicians, licensed in states other than New Jersey would be waived on a temporary basis so that professional services could be offered to New Jersey residents during the COVID-19 crisis.

Eligible practitioners are those who currently hold an active license in good standing and have been practicing within the past five years.  The waiver permits a physician licensed only in states other than New Jersey to apply for licensure with this simple one-page form. The expectation is that the application will be reviewed and acted upon within 24 hours.

The waiver includes the requirements for a criminal background check, payment of licensing fees, and mandatory malpractice insurance coverage.  The waiver is for a period of 180 days subject to extension.  Such healthcare practitioners will be able to provide telemedicine services as well as in-person services.
