Greenbaum partner Robert S. Goldsmith, Co-Chair of the firm’s Redevelopment & Land Use practice, will be a panelist for a presentation on “Demographic and Fiscal Modeling for Environmental Planning: New Tools from NSF-Funded Projects” on Tuesday, April 22, 2025 from 3:30pm – 5:30pm. The event will be held at the Rutgers-New Brunswick Edward J. Bloustein School of Planning and Public Policy’s Civic Square Building in New Brunswick and will also be available for online viewing. The program will be hosted by the Bloustein School, the New Jersey Chapter of the American Planning Association, and the Megalopolitan Coastal Transformation Hub.

This event will introduce new planning tools for assessing the impacts of development and disasters on local public finances. especially the local property tax. Attendees will learn about a new, freely accessible online database of residential demographic multipliers for estimating the population and service needs associated with increments or decrements of housing development. They will also gain experience with a new, free, accessible, online modeling tool for estimating the local fiscal impacts of disaster scenarios. Both tools have been validated for New Jersey and can be used in all 50 U.S. states. Attendees will also learn the results of a public opinion survey regarding how to manage flood risks in New Jersey.

Bob and his fellow panelists will participate in a discussion intended to provide perspectives on this research. His practice focuses on redevelopment, downtown and urban revitalization, transit-oriented development, project financing and incentives, sustainable building initiatives and public-private partnerships. His experience encompasses counseling clients on the specialized issues in redevelopment related to parking demand, design and construction.
