Charles J. WilkesCharles J. Wilkes, a partner in the firm’s Real Estate and Redevelopment & Land Use Departments, has been appointed Chair of the Assignment and Subleasing Committee of the Leasing Group of the American Bar Association Real Property, Trust and Estate Law Section (RPTE) for a one year term, effective September 1, 2019.

In an environment where space available for sublease exceeds space available for direct lease in some markets, tenants require increased leasing flexibility, assignment and subleasing issues have assumed greater importance. The RPTE’s Assignment and Subleasing Committee reviews the drafting techniques, landlord and tenant strategies, and legal interpretations that affect assignments and subleases and provides practical advice on changing trends.

In his role as Chair, Mr. Wilkes will be responsible for proposing and assisting in the preparation and presentation of CLE programming for the Leasing Group, both online and at the RPTE Section’s 2020 Spring CLE Conference in New Orleans.  His responsibilities will also include proposing and assisting in the preparation of articles for the ABA’s real property publications.  Mr. Wilkes will work closely with fellow committee members and other Leasing Group committee leadership to achieve the goals of the group.

Mr. Wilkes concentrates his practice on commercial real estate and financing transactions. He has worked on a variety of sophisticated matters, including the acquisition, disposition, financing and leasing of commercial real estate and major redevelopment projects
