Meryl A.G. Gonchar, co-chair of the Real Estate Department at Greenbaum, Rowe, Smith & Davis LLP, as well as chair of the Land Use Practice Group, has been selected to receive the Middlesex County Bar Association Transactional (Non-Litigation) Attorney Practice Award for excellence in her profession. The award will be presented on March 24th when the MCBA will hold its 5th Annual Practice Area Awards Dinner at The Pines Manor in Edison.
Ms. Gonchar’s practice encompasses all aspects of land use and zoning and land use litigation. She has appeared before planning and zoning boards throughout the state on behalf of property owners and developer clients in connection with all types of residential, commercial, industrial and mixed use projects. She also represents clients in land use, condemnation and related litigation before the Superior Court of New Jersey. She began her practice at the firm doing transactions including construction and permanent lending. Her diversified experience enables her to assist clients throughout the various stages of a project’s development, from acquisition through approvals and permitting, financing, leasing or sales, providing extensive knowledge and continuity throughout the often long and complicated process of land development.
In 2008, Ms. Gonchar was selected one of the Top 50 Women in Business by NJBIZ. She is listed in The Best Lawyers in America in the Real Estate Category, in Chambers USA: America’s Leading Business Lawyers in the Real Estate: Zoning/Land Use practice area, and in Super Lawyers – NJ Edition in the Real Estate category; she was elected as one of New Jersey’s Top 50 Women Lawyers in Super Lawyers. In 2009, she was recognized as one of Real Estate New Jersey magazine’s Women of Influence.
Ms. Gonchar was elected a member of the American College of Real Estate Lawyers in 2007. She is a past chair and ex officio member of the Board of Directors of the Land Use Law Section of the New Jersey State Bar Association and a member of the Long Term Planning Committee of the New Jersey State Bar Association. Ms. Gonchar is an active member of the NJ Builders Association, NAIOP NJ, and the Monmouth University Kislak Real Estate Institute Leadership Excellence Award Planning Committee. She is a past president and former director of programming of Industrial Commercial Real Estate Women - New Jersey (ICREW-NJ) and former delegate to CREW Network (the preeminent national women’s real estate organization). She is a member of the Executive Committee of the Board of Directors and serves as Women’s Philanthropy Campaign Chair of the Jewish Federation of Greater Middlesex County and served for more than ten years as a member of the Board of Trustees of the George Street Playhouse in New Brunswick.
Ms. Gonchar is a graduate of Rutgers College and Rutgers School of Law Newark.
