Raymond M. Brown, a partner in the firm’s Litigation Department, has been named to serve on the New Jersey State Bar Association Task Force on Judicial Independence. The task force includes some of the state’s most highly respected attorneys, legal scholars and lay persons, and is charged with studying the threats facing the independence of the Judiciary as a co-equal branch of government.
The task force plans to hold a series of public hearings to how examine how current political interference may be harmful to the legal system in New Jersey and the public it serves, and will then issue a public report with strategies to address those concerns, including initiatives to educate the public about the importance of a strong and independent Judiciary.
According to New Jersey State Bar Association President Ralph J. Lamparello, “the membership of this task force represents some the very finest minds not just in New Jersey’s legal community, but in all of New Jersey, to examine this issue, which is of paramount importance to our democracy.”
Mr. Brown is a high profile criminal defense attorney with an international legal practice, as well as a leading figure in the developing area of the law related to the regulation and enforcement of business requirements for human rights compliance.
